Alan grew up in rural South Dakota graduating from Iroquois High School. He then attended SDSU, earning a Bachelors in Science degree 2002, received his EMT certification in 2009, his NREMT Paramedic in 2014 from the Avera School of EMS, and holds a certificate in Non-profit Management from Duke University in 2022. After completing his Paramedic training, Alan spent two years serving the Sicangu Oyate Nation on the Rosebud Indian Reservation. He joined the part time paramedic crew at Lennox Ambulance in 2015 and has been the full time Director of EMS for Lennox Ambulance since 2016. Alan also serves as President of District 2 for the South Dakota Emergency Medical Services Association.  

Alan, his wife, and their three children have lived in Lennox since 2013.
