Nathan (Nate) Vander Plaats has spent his career in public and non-profit service. He has served as a Caseworker and Regional Director for United States Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa, Director of Mission Services for Iowa/Nebraska and Director of Retail at Goodwill of the Great Plains, and as Executive Director of Promise Community Health Center.
Nate holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He has completed several leadership programs, including Leadership Dakota County (NE), the Goodwill Industries International Senior Leader Program, and the Goodwill Industries International Executive Development Program. He is currently enrolled in the Leadership South Dakota Program.
Nate is the Past President of the South Sioux City Kiwanis Club, a past board member of the Siouxland Taxpayer's Research Council, and the Leadership Dakota County (NE) Planning Committee. He has also served as the Vice Chair of the Sioux City Community Schools Advisory Committee, and the Sioux City Community School District Budget Review Committee.
Nate and his wife, Shawna, are parents to Keegan, as well as two dogs. When not at work, Nate enjoys hunting with German Shorthaired Pointer, fishing by boat or ice, cooking wild game, and golfing
