Summer Rec

The community’s Summer Recreation Program wrapped up their season filled with energy, learning, and fun for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. With a strong mix of sports, creative arts, and outdoor activities, the program gave kids opportunities to try new things, meet friends, and stay active during the summer months.

Tennis was one of the largest programs, drawing 43 participants who learned the fundamentals of serving, rallying, and teamwork. Archery was equally popular, with 42 kids eager to take aim under the careful instruction of staff of the Outdoor Campus while learning about range safety and proper shooting techniques. Both activities gave children a chance to build confidence while developing new skills.

Several programs focused on outdoor adventure and nature. The Planting Palooza, which attracted 29 children, introduced potting basics while encouraging pride in helping things grow. Survival class drew 25 participants who explored outdoor skills such as shelter building, first aid and fire safety. Both programs encouraged kids to spend more time outside and appreciate the world around them.

Pickleball and Golf introduced children to sports that are growing in popularity. Sixteen participants joined pickleball, enjoying its fast-paced but beginner-friendly style of play. Golf offered 12 kids their first experience with swings and putts, highlighting patience needed for the game.

Creative outlets were also available. Painting gave kids the chance to use another side of their brain, while Baton Twirling, with six participants, combined rhythm and coordination with a final performance in the Lennox 4th of July parade.

Other highlights included Fitness in the Park (actually the gym due to rain), which engaged 21 kids in age-appropriate exercises focused on platies and yoga as well as Yard Games, where 11 participants enjoyed classic outdoor fun like relay races and Bocce ball.   These simple activities created plenty of laughter and memories.

In total, the Summer Recreation Program had a total of over 200 registrations. The Recreation Department would like to extend a special thank you to the volunteer instructors and Rec Assistants who made this summer possible. Their time, energy, and support were essential in creating this line-up of experiencess for the community’s youth. Appreciation is also extended to families for encouraging their children to participate and for helping foster such strong community involvement. We are looking forward to building on this momentum with an even stronger lineup next summer.
