The City of Lennox has recently approved a plan to guide the long-term development of parks, trails, and recreational facilities throughout the community. This plan will serve as a strategic roadmap to help ensure Lennox’s park system remains connected, accessible and responsive to resident needs as the community grows. Stockwell Engineers, Inc. will lead the planning process in coordination with City staff, the Park Board, and the public.
The planning effort will begin with establishing a project timeline and clearly defined goals. The City’s Park Board will serve in an advisory role throughout the process, helping guide key decisions and providing review at major milestones. Stockwell will also review existing plans and background information and work with the City to identify stakeholders such as schools, athletic organizations, service providers, and City departments.
We are particularly excited about the plan’s major focus on public engagement. Opportunities for community input will include focus group meetings, a public meeting, and a community survey. The survey will be available by mail, phone, online, and through QR codes at local parks to encourage broad participation. Public feedback will help evaluate current park facilities and identify desired amenities, programs, and improvements.
An inventory and analysis of existing parks, trails, and recreational facilities will follow. This includes site visits to assess amenities, maintenance needs, accessibility considerations, and overall levels of service across the park system. Existing trail plans will also be reviewed to identify connections and gaps, and survey results will be used to highlight areas where additional facilities or investments may be needed.
The final Master Plan will present recommendations for improvements to existing parks, development of new parks, future land acquisition, and enhanced trail connections. Recommendations will be organized into short-, mid-, and long-term priorities and will include estimated capital costs for the next five to ten years. A draft plan will be reviewed by the Park Board and City Council before adoption, creating a clear and actionable guide for parks and recreation planning in Lennox for years to come.
As this plan moves forward, we invite the community to be an active participant in the process! Please stay tuned to the City’s website and mobile app for more information as opportunities for input and involvement arise!
