The National Weather Service has upgraded our snow today to a Winter Storm Warning with up to 8" of snow expected. With this change in the forecast, the City of Lennox has issued a snow alert starting at 4:00 on Saturday, December 6. After 4:00, vehicles left on the street will be ticketed and towed. Officers will attempt to make contact with the owner of each vehicle prior to ticketing and towing. Vehicles that are towed may be retrieved on Monday after paying all applicable fines and fees at City Hall.

More snow is on the way Saturday! While we do not anticipate the need for a snow alert, our plow crews would appreciate it if your vehicle is moved from the street in preparation for tomorrow's snow event. Doing so will greatly help with the snow removal effort!

Technology is a useful tool, but it doesn't always function flawlessly. We will be testing our alerts system this Friday at 10am. If you don’t receive the notification and wish to be added to the list, fill out the form on the top of our website titled "Stay Informed"

Thank you to the Lennox Fire Department for their prompt response to tonight's fire. Our volunteer firefighters work through risky and dangerous situations, and their regular training keeps us all safe in these situations! We're grateful for what they give to our community!

The Lennox snow alert remains in effect this evening, Saturday, November 29 until 11:59 PM. Crews are working through town now, but have encountered several vehicles parked in the street. Please remove any vehicles from city streets or they will be ticketed and towed.

If your vehicle was towed before 9:00 this morning, please contact the Lennox Police Department non-emergency line at 605.647.5299 to have your vehicle released.

Due to a failure of the snow alert to reach everyone, I am waiving all ticket and tow fees issued before 9:00 AM on November 29, 2025. We are looking into the issues with the alert system and will resolve this matter. I apologize for any inconvenience, and if you have any questions please feel free to call Nate at 563.940.1620.

An important reminder about the Move Over Law, that was updated in July earlier this year, becomes more and more relevant as we enter a high traffic season with the upcoming holidays.

When tow truck drivers, law enforcement officers, highway maintenance workers, and others are conducting work on the shoulder of our roadways, they can often be hard to see. Many times, they are beside their vehicles but out of sight. Other times, they could be in their vehicles occupying the shoulder at a slow rate of speed.

This is why it is important to be alert and obey South Dakota’s updated Move Over Law.

South Dakota’s new Move Over Law became effective as of Tuesday, July 1, 2025. The updated law now applies to all vehicles occupying the shoulder using amber, yellow, or blue warning lights.

If you encounter a slow-moving vehicle occupying the shoulder using amber, yellow, or blue warning lights, you must move over and slow down! For many the road is their office. Let’s do our part to make sure they go home safely at the end of their shift.

The City of Lennox Water Department will begin flushing fire hydrants starting on Wednesday, November 19th ending Thursday the 20th.This work can stir up sediment in the water lines for a short time. It can also temporarily cause low water pressure at your property. Flushing is an important part of preventative maintenance to ensure safe drinking water and functioning hydrants.
Before washing laundry, please check the color of your water to avoid problems. If your water is discolored, run the COLD water tap for 10 – 15 minutes and it should clear up. Thank you!
